FRANCISCAN Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother

This is the initial step for answering God’s call to holiness.

The candidate must be at least 18 years of age.

It consists of a three month period.

A religious vocation is a personal invitation from God to totally consecrate oneself to Him by means of the practice of the evangelical counsels:  poverty, chastity and obedience.

Aspirancy

This is the time for a person to gradually adjust to religious life in preparation for the novitiate.  Postulants live full time within the Community.  This period will be no less than

six months, not exceeding nine months.

Postulancy

This step focuses on the spiritual and interior development of the individual.  Novices strive to practice the virtues of daily life and to persevere in prayer, constantly uniting herself to God.

The Novitiate lasts for a period of two years.

Novitiate

This profession of vows is a mutual contract between the religious and the Community, by which the religious gives herself to God and to the Community, by living the three substantial vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.

Temporary Professed

Perpetual profession, unique and of major importance to the Sister who consecrates herself to God, is a lifelong commitment to Christ and to the service of His Church.
